Who’s the Best Striker at Tannadice?

Three very different forwards are carrying Dundee United’s attacking hopes: Zac Sapsford, Max Watters, and Nikolaj Moller. Who deserves the spot in "Gorgeous Jim´s" starting line up? We asked the readers — and the verdict was emphatic. Readers’ vote: Zac Sapsford 70% — Max Watters 30% — Nikolaj Moller 0%.

But fan opinion is only part of the story. To dig deeper, we’re analysing each player’s style, strengths and weaknesses — while looking at their career Goals and Assists minus penalties to see who really delivers when it matters.

Zac Sapsford

Zac Sapsford

An Australian forward who came through Sydney FC’s youth system before making his way to Scotland, Zac has steadily built a reputation as a hard-working and determined striker. He adds pace and direct running to the attack. He’s a livewire: constantly on the move, stretching backlines, and dangerous in transition. His ability to exploit space makes him a nightmare for defenders, although he can fade when the service dries up and doesn’t always carry the physical presence to bully centre-halves. The drawback is that he can be wasteful with chances. Even so, his career output stands at 0.57% , reflecting his steady contribution over time.

Max Watters

Watters began his career in the English lower leagues before bursting onto the scene with Crawley Town, where a prolific spell earned him a move up the divisions. Now in Dundee United colours, he’s the complete striker: strong when leading the line, excellent at holding up play, and a real presence in the box. He draws fouls and brings teammates into play, making him a natural focal point for United’s attacks. However, he doesn’t have the burst of pace of his rivals . Still, his attacking record is the most efficient of the trio, with a career output of 0.67%.

Nikolaj Moller

The Swedish forward, once a youth prospect at Malmö and later in Arsenal’s academy, has taken in loan spells across Europe before arriving at Tannadice. At 6’4” he has the frame of a classic target man, but it’s his technical ability and link-up play that catch the eye. He positions himself well, shows intelligence in his movement, and has the touch to knit attacks together. The frustration for supporters is that he rarely turns this promise into end product, too often lacking the killer instinct needed to decide games. His career output of 0.27%  underlines that shortfall.

Verdict — Who’s the Best?

While Max Watters edges the numbers with a career output of 0.67% but the fans’ overwhelming backing of Zac Sapsford isn’t misplaced. Sapsford’s presence, reliability, and influence on United’s overall play make him the striker the team is built around. The verdict: Zac Sapsford is Dundee United’s best striker — not just by popular vote, but by the impact he brings on the pitch.
